Job Summary: The Optometrist is responsible for the efficient and effective delivery of clinical services to our patients. Optometrist examines patients eyes, test their sight, give advice on visual problems and prescribe and fit spectacles or contact lenses when needed. The Optometrist is trained to recognize diseases of the eye, such as glaucoma and cataracts, as well as general health conditions such as diabetes. The Optometrist will refer to the medical practitioners, when necessary, as well as sometimes sharing the care of patients with chronic conditions. The Optometrist is accountable to ensure their practice is operated as specified in grants and contracts in accordance with applicable statutes and regulations, the Tribes policies and procedures, and professional ethics.

Compensation:

·        Salary: $145,148.00

Schedule: Full-time, Exempt.

Patient Demographics: Patients of all ages, including those with chronic ophthalmic conditions.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Doctorate in Optometry
  • Successful completion of all parts of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) exam
  • Three years of experience
  • Critical thinking skills with high accuracy
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of Electronic Health Records and Systems

Licensure:

  • Current Alaska State Optometry License in good standing
  • Current DEA certificate
  • Valid Alaska Driver's License and insurability under the Tribe's policy

Certifications: BLS certification required.

Responsibilities:

  • Examine eyes to detect injuries, diseases, abnormalities, or vision defects
  • Check for signs of general health conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension)
  • Use specialized diagnostic and testing equipment
  • Prescribe medications and treatments as permitted by state laws
  • Provide pre- and post-operative care for cataract and refractive surgery patients
  • Issue prescriptions for spectacles or contact lenses
  • Fit and check prescribed lenses
  • Provide advice on vision-related matters
  • Write referral communications to doctors
  • Fulfill continuing education requirements
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and tribal policies
