Dr. John Shufeldt is a physician–attorney with an entrepreneur’s heart. While emergency medicine is his calling, his true passion lies in transforming healthcare delivery. With over 30 years of experience in healthcare startups and investing, John has founded and grown over 15 companies. Notably, he pioneered NextCare Urgent Care in 1993 to address emergency department overcrowding.

In 2010, John launched MeMD, a first-of-its-kind virtual healthcare platform. MeMD empowered over 500 providers across 50 states before its aquisition by Walmart in 2021.

John founded Tribal Health in 2015 after witnessing the vast healthcare disparities on Indigenous lands. Today Tribal Health is the leader in Indigenous healthcare management and staffing.

John earned his MD from the University of Health Sciences and the Chicago Medical School. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Christ Hospital and Medical Center. He earned his Juris Doctorate from ASU and is admitted to the State Bar in Arizona, the Federal District Court and Supreme Court of the United States. John was an adjunct professor at Arizona State University W.P. Carey School of Business where he taught Health Law and Ethics to MBA and Health Sector Management students.

Mostly recently, John helped found Arizona State University’s new medical school – the John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering.
