Today we’re featuring a physician recruiter – Brandon Cook, who connects our partner facilities to top-notch providers. Brandon has a lot of expertise in a lot of areas; in his college days, he played football for Texas Christian University, then transferred to Kansas State University to finish his business degree in economics. After college, he worked as a Project Coordinator for Ericsson Telecommunication in Plano, TX, while completing his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. After finishing his PMP certifications, he accepted a Project Manager position with Pepsico Inc. in Plano, Texas.
So how did he get into the healthcare recruiting field? We asked him what attracted him to the field and why he enjoys his job.
Brandon, why did you decide to become a physician recruiter?
After working as a Project Manager for a few years, I felt it wasn’t the path I wanted to take in my career; I needed an opportunity to be competitive, driven, and motivating. So I started my career in recruiting with Merrit Hawkins AMN HealthCare – recruiting Physicians for permanent placements.
After a few years of recruiting for permanent jobs, I explored recruiting for contract positions. I was then offered a position with a Locums agency called Austin Major Group. I was the Year’s top producer in 2017 and 2018.
After working there for years, I wanted a change but still wanted to be in healthcare locums. I then accepted a job with Tribal Health in the summer of 2019 and it was the best decision in my career. Being able to do what I love and impact rural communities by recruiting quality physicians drives me to be the best healthcare recruiter I can be every day.
What do you like best about being a physician recruiter?
The best thing I like about recruiting is the relationship building – and finding quality providers that can impact a community.
What is your recruiting focus?
My recruiting focus is providing quality physicians and advanced practitioners to the Great Plains.
If you were going out on assignment, what would be your dream location?
My dream location would be Turks and Caicos! Working around the beautiful beaches, rainforests, and mountains would be amazing!
When you’re not at work, you are…
I like to travel and go on adventures with my beautiful wife. I also enjoy outdoor activities, grilling, exercise, stand-up comedy shows, and watching sports.
