Summary

Job Summary:

The Outpatient Registered Nurse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing patient services and clinical operations as directed by the Medical Director – Physician. This position provides leadership, supervision, and clinical guidance to nursing and auxiliary staff. In addition, the Registered Nurse Supervisor coordinates patient care services, ensures compliance with medical protocols, and promotes a culture of teamwork and excellence in clinical care.

Responsibilities:

·        Provide clinical supervision and direct oversight to the Public Health Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Lead Medical Assistant, and all Medical Assistants.

·        Conduct performance evaluations, review and approve timecards, and manage time off requests for assigned staff.

·        Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance management to nursing and medical support staff, ensuring adherence to departmental standards and policies.

·        Provide primary care services to medical patients. Services include taking health histories, vital signs, patient assessment, and treatments as directed by the attending physician.

·        In collaboration with patients’ primary care provider, provide direct patient care within the scope of training and departmental protocols, make referrals, follow-ups, and provide or arrange for patient/family health education.

·        Coordinate daily clinic activities including patient flow, triage (i.e. walk-ins and telephone contacts), COVID-19 screening and testing, and oversee COVID-19 vaccine activities.

·        Maintain inventory and maintenance schedule of medical department equipment and supplies. Oversee the ordering of supplies and medications to ensure a constant supply exists. Coordinate lab services, linkages, and agreements with outside agencies.

·        Oversee medications process by tracking expired medications and renewals, maintain drug inventory, including emergency kit, crash carts, oxygen and automated external cardiac defibrillators.

·        Participate in Chart Audits for IHS programs, for example: GPRA, Diabetes Audit.

·        Adhere to applicable adopted internal and external policies and procedures.

·        Recommend revisions and implement nursing protocols and procedures to ensure appropriate safety and quality care are always provided.

·        Monitor the employee health program, as directed by the Medical Director – Physician.

·        Conduct and document patient education.

·        Review patient records for accuracy and thoroughness.

·        Perform skills essential to the kind of nursing action to be taken, explain the health treatment to the client and family and teach the client and family how to care for the client's health needs.

·        Other duties as assigned.

Licensure:

  • Current California Nursing License
  • CPR/BLS Certification
  • Valid CA Driver’s License

Setting: Outpatient clinic

Schedule:

Full-time; standard clinic hours. Includes oversight of daily clinic operations, walk-ins, and COVID-19 screening/testing coordination.

Patient Demographics:

All age groups; general medical patients in an outpatient setting.

Support Staff:

  • Lead Medical Assistant
  • Medical Assistants
  • Administrative and clinical support staff

Certifications:

  • CPR/BLS
  • Board Certification not applicable for RN roles

Qualifications & Requirements:

·        Current CA Nursing License and CPR certification.

·        Minimum of five (5) years previous Registered Nurse experience with at least two (2) years’ experience in an outpatient primary care clinic setting.

·        Minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience.

·        Knowledge of HIPAA Law, Privacy Acts and ability to maintain confidentiality of Protected Health Information.

·        Excellent interpersonal, listening, verbal/written communication skills.

·        Must have the ability to set priorities appropriately, in order to meet competing deadlines.

·        Self-directed and able to take initiative. Strong decision-making skills.

·        Familiarity with computers and information systems. Experience working in an Electronic Health Record (EHR) environment.

·        Understands and promotes the mission, vision, and values of the health center both in the workplace and in the community.

·        Must possess and maintain a valid CA driver’s license.

·        Post job offer: CPR/BLS certification, TB test, and annual flu shot (during flu season) are required as a condition of employment, unless a medical/religious accommodation request is provided. Hepatitis B Vaccine will be offered at no cost to employees, but it is not required.
